Here's an email I got regarding two new yearly passes available at the Glenwood Caverns adventure park. We have had passes in past years and it's lots of fun. Here's the scoop:

Just in time for the holidays, we're introducing two new annual passes, created with you in mind. Both passes can be purchased at the Tram Base at 51000 Two Rivers Plaza Road in Glenwood Springs, or by calling 800-530-1635, ext 111.

Annual Tram Pass
Enjoy unlimited rides on the Iron Mountain Tramway and park admission for a year! At just $25 per person, this pass will pay for itself in just a few visits. It's perfect for anyone on your list who enjoys lunch or dinner at the restaurants, or the Music on the Mountain concerts.

Annual Thrill Pass
Includes unlimited tram rides and access to the alpine roller coaster, giant swing, 4D Theater, Laser Tag, Bungee Trampolines, giant maze, GiddyUp!, climbing wall, simulated wagon ride, mechanical bull and cave simulator. At just $100 per person, it provides a full year of fun for less than the price of three Day Passes. From the Friday prior to Memorial Day to the Tuesday following Labor Day, the Annual Thrill Pass is valid from 3 - 9 p.m.; the pass is valid the rest of the year anytime that the park is open. Both passes are good for a full calendar year beginning with the date of purchase and entitle pass holders to a 10 percent discount at the General Store gift shop, the Lookout Grille, and the Iron Mountain Saloon.

These passes replace the annual membership passes previously available. All existing annual membership passes will be honored until the expiration date.

Costco's lemon bar mix has three pkgs. of lemon bar mix for $2.97. Good for food storage. Also, Safeways has turkey breasts on sale for 99 cents/lb. Great price, and if you don't have room for a whole turkey, these are great to have. Use them in place of chicken for many of your recipes for a lot less money. I was just in Glenwood, looking for Easter stuff, and at K-Mart they have everything marked 50% off. This includes all easter candy, plastic eggs, grass, baskets, egg coloring kits and even decorations. They don't have nearly as big of a selection as Target, but its all half off. If you go, don't forget to look at the front of the store behind the registers. I didn't notice that they had stuff there until I was checking out.

Turkeys and Seussical

In this weeks City Market Ad, whole turkeys are on sale for $6.99/ limit 2. I think it is first come first serve, so if you want a large one for that price, go today.
Seussical the Musical is performing at the High School again tonight and tomorrow. (Thurs. and Fri.)
It is WONDERFUL!!!! Chrissy Smith plays JoJo who has quite an imagination, Bryan Matthews is wonderful as Horton the elephant, Melodey Matthews is Mayzie the amazing red bird, Jessica Kline is playing Bass in the pit band, and Josh Smith is a great support as a member of the Stage crew behind the scenes. Pam Smith has spent the last 2 months painting and organizing all the scenery and backdrops. The newspaper didn't give her any credit, but believe me, she is amazing!!!!
Pam Padgett is busy with props for the musical, and I have rented some wonderful costumes. The kids look great!!!! I hope I haven't left anyone out!
This musical is for any age, and is about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Tickets : $10/adults, $6/students $3/children 5 and under. Enjoy! Nickie

Hey, while browsing through the Costco in Ogden, UT I found a killer deal. They have 2 packs of the Shade brand layering shirts for $12.99. This is an amazing deal, these shirts usually sell for $18 each!!!! They also have 3/4 length and long sleeve 2 pks for $19.99. These shirts are are really nice quality and hold up very well. Plus, the sleeve is a little longer than the Down East Basics brand, which gives you more coverage. Each pack comes with 2 different colored shirts in sizes s-xxl. Can someone check our store and see if this deal is there as well? Hope you can find them.

I just read Nikki's post about Walmart and I have to add that we went to Walmart (Avon) on Saturday and got total STEALS on toys. We picked up a Dora couch that folds out into a bed for $7, reg. price $79, we got a Barbie house type-thing for $10, reg. $80, a leap-pad type thing for my niece that was $5, reg. I'm not sure, but a bunch of cash I'm sure. Anyways, check out the toys for Christmas/birthday presents!

Walmart Bargains (Glenwood)

Greg and I were doing some major shopping on Thursday, and Walmart had the best sales! We even bought Christmas presents for 2009! Bath towel sets: Bath towel, hand towel and wash cloths were $1/set, and the colors varied with tan, tourquoise, barnwood red, yellow, sage green and more. Nice variety of throw pillows were $1 apiece too. Housewares had many nice clearance items including clear cereal bowls (glass) for 25 cents, and bread baking pans (pyrex) for $1.50 instead of $7. Just cruise each aisle and check things out. It was fun! Nickie

Tuesday is Family Night at Taco Bell

We stumbled across this one by accident. Tuesday night is family night at Taco Bell. You can get 2 kids meals for free with each paying adult. So, Gerry and I each bought a meal and we got 4 kids meals for free. Bonus! Our total price was $12. This is cheaper than we can make tacos at home for our family, so Tuesday nights just may turn into Taco Bell night!

Why We Like Costco

Here is a quick list however, to help you know which items are 'generally' LESS at Costco and that are great to stock up on, add to your food storage and keep in your freezer:
cheese (mozzarella, parmesan, cheddar, feta, blue cheese)
butter
string cheese
lunch meat
lettuce
mushrooms
apples/strawberries
salt
honey
flour
rice
tortillas
baking soda,
powder,
yeast
SOME spices (ANY spices you can buy at Walmart for .50 is BETTER than Costco's prices. The name brand spices however are MUCH less at Costco--McCormick Lemon Pepper, Montreal Steak Seasoning, etc.)
McCormick Chicken & Beef Base (One of my favorite ingredients, found by the spices! It's just like bouillon cubes but MUCH more convenient.)
soy sauce
white vinegar
olive oil & balsamic vinegar
nuts--pecans, walnuts, almonds, etc. Keep in your freezer and they will last MUCH longer.
lemon juice
raisins
garbage bags/kitchen liners
Ziploc bagsl
aundry detergent/softener
dishwasher detergent
batteries
Something also to consider: Some items at Costco are better quality than items you can find at Walmart or other grocery stores. Once you find those items that meet your quality and price expectations, then sometimes it is worth spending the extra money. However, if you watch the sales, you can many times find the EXACT items for LESS at other stores. Whether you buy food at Costco or somewhere else, the important things is that you are stocking up and becoming prepared ;)

Food Storage Buckets

Greg and I were up at Home Depot after Vaniel's baby shower today, and the 5 gallon Homer buckets are on sale. We want to store 25 and 50 pound sacks of flour and etc., but we will line them with food grade bags first. I'm not sure how long they will be on sale for, but call them first before you make a trip up there. 748-9483. The buckets are $2.78, and the lids are 98cents each. Hope this helps. Chop Down Your Own Christmas Tree

If you want to cut down your own Christmas tree, you need a permit from the Forest Service. Their office is located across from Eagle Town Park on 5th St. It is usually $10 and they are only open on Mondays and Fridays until 4:30 so plan accordingly. - Per Nickie

Turkeys at City Market

So, I went to City Market a few days ago. They had an add for $6.00 turkeys, up to 16 lbs, as well as two other brands up to 16 lbs for $8.00. When I got there, they didn't have any turkeys left that were less than 21+ lbs.
However, I talked to one of the clerks, and he ordered two 16 lbs turkeys for me for that special - I believe you can do such orders at the meat counter. I was thrilled that I don't have to pick all over them hoping that I can find something bigger than 8 lbs and under 21 and they'll get the right size for me, and all I have to do is go and pick them up!
